Default Slug gun question.

Can I Shoot rifled slugs throgh a modified choke or do I need to buy a rifled choke. I only ask because I have only shot slugs through fixed choke barrels. Help me out please.

Also, which does everbody prefer for a slug gun, red dot or shotgun scope.

My only experience along that line came YEARS ago, when as a kid, I shot at a crow withan old single-barrel 12 ga. full choke and a slug round of some sort. Missed the crow, but took the bead front sight out, and split the end of the barrel. Does this help??

Most rifled slugs will shoot out of an I/C or modified bore. Just make sure they are rifled slugs with the fins on them. The fins collapse and allow for a tighter choke. A solid slug like a pumpkin ball or something might not work.

Some rifled slugs can even be shot out of a full choke. I don't know that I would try it.

You might get a bit better accuracy with a rifled choke though. Then again you might not. Keep in mind the fins on the rifled slugs do not impart any spin onto the slug. The barrel needs to be rifled for this. The fins are simply there to collapse and allow for different bore diameters at the end.

In reply to "Did that hurt"?, The crow never felt a thing, and the only part of me that was injured at all was my backside when I got home and my Dad saw the shotgun.

its interchangable. I've shot slugs through both my remington 870 and winchester 1300 using improved cylinders no problem.

I would use nothing but improve cyc. for slugs. The best way to shoot accurately out of a interchangable choke isby using arifle choke made for sabot and foster slugs. If it was me I would get me a barrel for slugs with rifle sight.
