Default Air Guns..

I have a Crosman .177 Powermaster, and I was wondering if it would be any good for bird/rabbit/squirell hunting.

The rifle can shoot BB's 680 fps, and can shoot pellets up to 645 fps.

It will work but you need to be at a very close range especailly for rabbits. If you want to hunt with an airgun there are several that run around $100 on up that will shoot a pellet up to 1100 fps that will work a lot better.

Better check to see if its a legal means of harvesting the game you want to shoot.

I have hunted with the Air rifles, but they were .22 cal or above with higher velocities.

A .22 is about the littlest thing that packs enough punch. Velocities should be higher than 600-700 fps, and in guns that shoot BB's and Pellets accuracy isn't the greatest. BB's and Pellets are slightly different caliber, so if a gunis to shoot both, then the barrel must be somewhere in between BB and Pellet caliber. I recommend a higher power airgun to hunt with.

I would advise against using your air gun due to its low muzzle velocity. I have one that consistantly shoots at 1200 fps and that will take squirell, rabit, cats, birds with no questions asked. Its only .177 but 1200 fps will penetrate. I have yet to have something walk away from that. The only reason I advise against you using yours is that you wouldnt want to wound an animal, if your going to shoot it, kill it. 600 fps will do some damage, and maybe even kill with a well placed shot at a close distance. If you are trying to chase them away, go get a 20$ gun. I got a .177 pistol I use to chase away the stray cats, that thing wouldnt penetrate skin at 3 feet, but it sure pisses them off with out hurting them.
