If you have a paper mate pen the upgrade can cost $0, I just swapped out teh trigger spring with one froma paper mate pen, lots of other people have done it rimfire central. or you can buy a rifle basix trigger, I think there less then $100 in the US.

If you do the pen job you will need to shim teh side of the trigger because with the lighter spring alot of slop is reviled in the trigger. so just a small peice of brass or i even used pieces of a pop can for a little while.

Just remove the bottom c clip and the trigger and teh spring will come out then just throw in your new one. and place your shims in the little inlet on the trigger. if you need help or anything just Pm me.

O yeah the pen trick make a great trigger its nice and light but still very crisp with no Creap. Just make sure you test your work by giving it a good bump test to make sure it doesnt set off.

I put a RifleBasix trigger on my Savage 17hmr. I absolutely love this thing now. It is adjustable from 10oz to 24oz. It is fairly easy to instal by yourself, it took me about half an hour. I went slow and had no problems. It cost me $70. I knew about the pen spring trick, but wanted a trigger I knew would be safe. Not one that should be safe. Good luck.

I've installedRifle Basix and Jardtriggers on 917's and wasn't impressed. They're a little better than the un-altered factory trigger, but surely not worth $90. I don't mind spending big dollars for triggers on my custom hunting rifles but I can't see spending 80% of the rifle's cost on a trigger.

917 factory triggers are simple to work. .015" off the sear, lightly roll thetrigger ledge, 1/4 coil off the sear and trigger weight springs, and you've got a 1lb, crisp trigger.

Of all my 22's and 17's I like my Marlin's the most. It's just hard to beat their barrels.

One of my buddys took his Marlin to the local gunshop and a day later and $35 later it now has a very very sweet trigger on it.
