Default set triggers....Thompson Center

I just bought a used TC .50 Cal Muzzleloader Renegade. It has two triggers fore and aft with a set screw between them. The rear trigger seems to be non functional and doesn't do anything at all.

Can anyone tell me how this is supposed to work.....what does the set screw between the triggers do? Is the front trigger to set the rear one? Thanks

The set trigger is for hair trigger. Just pull it back till it locks and then the front is hair trigger. You might have to adjust the screw.

Just set the back trigger until it locks then screw in the screw until it comes loose. Back it out one turn (I think). And its set.

BC, thanks...that's how I thought it should work but no amount of pull on the rear trigger causes anything to set or click......it can however be moved foreward a long ways.....and this too seems to do nothing.

I took the triggers out and the set screw seems to adjust the amount of travel of the front trigger to cause the amount od "hair"..

I'm beginning to believe it's defective and may be returned to Thompson for repair.

Maybe someone else will reply with more wisdom...

Nope, it might not be defective. Try moving the screw in to see if it sets then move it out. The set trigger should just click into place with the main trigger and hammer not cocked.

People can do damage to the sear however trying to hold in the trigger and pulling the hammer back.

Holy jumping jehossafat...this thing works and great. I was trying to set the triggers with the hammer cocked and it didn't work. With the hammer at rest and not cocked this thing is fantastic.

Thanks guy.....good advise...it's a great trigger!!!

excellent. I love my T/C hawkin (cougar). That set trigger is fun at the range. I never use it hunting.
