Default Looking for info on the SKB/Ithaca XL900 12g

My dad bought one of these years ago, and I'd like to take it out sometime to try shooting clay pigeons. I can't seem to find much info on the internet about this gun. I know it's semi-auto and gas operated, but thats it. Can anyone tell me anything else about thses guns?

The SKB/Ithaca was made by the SKB factory in ***an for the Itachaca company.they are fine firearms and have been on the market for years. vangunsmith

He bought it new in the 1980's and has only put a case of shells through it. Should I get it checked out by a gunsmith before I shoot it? It hasn't been shot in atleast 10 years.

Ask your dad,if he had any problems or not? If he is not here with us,i would have it checked out for to be safe, like headspace and overall conditiion ect. It might cost a little but being safe is the main concern. It should be ok,but safe is better than sorry. vangunsmith

He never had problems with it, but that was 10 years ago. It has sat untouched for atleast 10 years. He doesn't think it needs checked out, but I'm cautious since it hasn't been used for 10 years. Are there seals that could wear out by not being lubricated? I don't know much about shotguns as you can tell.

thanks for your help

I have a 12 guage semi auto, that my dad bought brand new in the '70s. It is in mint condition not a scratch on it, and is used regularly, and cleaned after every use. How much would this gun run for?

Jdircksen, If your shotgun is the 900 XL I belive it's recoil operated not gas. Try to push the barrel to the rear or unscrew the magazine cap. The recoil model has a large spring over the stainless steel magazine tube. There may be a gas model, but the two I have are both recoil operated.
