what shot gun can i use for small game like birds rabbit and so on and then put a slug in for deer

Any 20 Ga or 12 Ga....preferably with screw in chokes as the slugs like cylinder bore chokes the best and shot seems to shoot best with mod to full chokes. Yes 16 Ga guns are fine too.....but a lot fewer of them around.

The 28 and 410 are not really good choices for slugs even though they work well for small game hunting

My choice for a good dependable and strong shotgun for birds, rabbits, squirrel, and slugs for deer would be a Winchester model 1300 black shadow deer combo. It comes with a 22 inch rifled barrel with iron sights as well as a 28 inch vent rib barrel with screw in chokes. All for about $370.

The 1300 is a rugged and well built shotgun that won't break the bank. It's about as dependable a shotgun as they come.

Get an 870 or mossberg combo model. It will come with one bird barrel that has interchangable chokes and a rifled slug barrel. That way you are set for anything you want to do.

I like the Browning BPS --- mine's a 12ga and I've hunted everything from doves to ducks, squirrels, etc. with it. I like the bottom eject and the short barrel.

I have never owned one and am not a fan of pump guns, but I would vote for 870 for an all around shotgun. I am a Benelli Super 90 shooter, but not everyone likes an auto or the Benelli price.
