Get out and shoot it, once you get used to the gun you really won't feel the recoil as much. You can add some weight to the stock, buy a quality pad like a Pachmayer or equivalent.

Savages are not the prettiest gun on the market but for the money you would have to look long and hard to find one more dependable andthat shoots as accurate as they do. Does it have the accu-trigger? You will be very pleased with your choice.

Smart puchase. I think you can take that gun anywhere for a whole lot of hunting. In time you may upgrade the scope but what you purchased could very well serve you for your life. Did you get the Accutrigger?
BTW, there may be an aftermarket recoil pad you could upgrade too. But chances are you could learn some shooting techniques that will minimize the recoil. Happy Shooting!!

Congrats!

Set the scope. Shoot the rifle. And I promise you, you won't feel a thing when a deer steps out.

Its not just me then. I have the savage 116 stainless and it really kicks. I put a limbsaver pad and it helped "slightly". Just shoot the reimgton or federal low recoil loads at the range they are pretty cheap and dont kick at all. Max effective range is 175 to 200 yds.
