You can safely shoot them out of a improved cylinder. You just won't be able to hit the broad side of a barn at 30 yards, let alone a deer. The rifled choke tube would serve you better. Not as well as a rifled barrel, but better than IC. You would also need a sight of some sort. Either a clip on rifle type sight, or a scope. That bead on the end of your shotgun will pert near cover up the chest of a deer at 40 yards. Good luck, wish you well this season.

They should work in a smooth bore. Maybe a bit better than a regular foster slug because they will have the tail to help keep them stable.
I would not shoot them out of a more constricting choke though because they don't have the callapsable fins on the outside of the slug.
Never know if you don't try them. They are fairly heavy so they should have pretty good knock down power at closer ranges. The trajectory may not be that great though. Plenty for a smooth bore however.
