Default 375 H&H Encore

I am getting ready to buy a 375 barrel for my Encore. I have the turkey model with the simms recoil pad. I have read and heard that the recoil is actually quite managable in this rifle due to the design. I havent had an issue shooting 3 inch mags in it, was just wondering if anyone here had first hand experience with it...

I"™m not sure what the difference the recoil is between the 375 H&H and the 350 Rem. Mag. but I have a T/C Encore with a barrel chambered for the 350 Rem. Mag. and I find that my T/C"™s design handles the 350 recoil fairly well. I"™m not one for heavy recoil but like how my T/C works. Maybe the 350 is a pop gun compared to the 375 H&H but thought I would just add my 2¢ for what it"™s worth.

The 350 rem mag has a decent kick but a 375HH mag is a whole different story. For more information check out

Does your barrel have the Muzzle Tamer? If not, Fox Ridge can install one. It should be reasonably fit to shoot then. What do you intend to hunt with your barrel?

I plan on someday heading to Alaska, its kinda a wish more than a need, but if we only bought guns we needed, we wouldnt have so much fun huh? I think I will set it up as a back up elk gun, and who knows when I may have to head to Africa, or Alaska.. LOL!!!

Usually, when someone chooses a 375 H&H they are going on a hunt for extremely big game or dangerous animals like the grizzly. I would not recommend a single shot rifle for the dangerous game unless your are really very quick in reloading for a second shot.[:-]

What about all thew people who go after Grizzly and Cape Buffalo with a muzzleloader, or a bow? I will have my blackhawk loaded with 310 grain garrrets... And besides, part of the excitment is the danger of using a one shot rifle.... besides I am pretty quick on the reload...

The 375 mag is said to have a recoil equal to a 3 1/2 12gauge full mag load , like the turkey loads . They are stout , and I much prefer shooting 3" loads . The encore as light as it is must have some serious recoil . If I were looking for a gun in this caliber I believe Id go with a full size bolt bun and install a brake on the muzzel .

the 375 isn't as bad as you think. due to the older case design, they don't really develop that much chamber pressure (relative to amodern, short action magnum). I had a .375 and it was more of a long, slow, strong push, than it was a sharp, hammer-likeTHUD of a handloaded .45-70.

Hey razorhead, thanks for some advice from someone with some shooting experience. I read in some magazine that the Encore stock design is actually pretty good for heavy recoiling rounds....
