I have no experience with burris scopes but I've used and mounted a few of the 3200 and buckmasters. I think you would be well served with either. Get a 3-9x40 this is a very usefull power range and they're built in the greatest quantity which means the best value. You can sight in at nine power but check it at other powers to make sure poi doesn't shift. Ipractice at the power I'll most likely use when hunting.

ryncam I got a Burris Fullfield II early last year for my .270 and liked it so much that I bought another for my 300 WM. Both scopes have the ballistic plex reticle and depending on the chambering you're putting it on determines your sighting in at 100 yds. I shot the rifles alot last year at various distances andused them on an antelope/mulie combo hunt last year and the reticle works as advertised. The antelope was taken at 275 yds and the mulie at a range I won't say here cause some people will think I'm lying but I have a guide that did the ranging with his Lieca rangefinder and witnessed the shot. But I practiced, practiced and practiced all summer.

I would go with a Burris Full Field II. Good luck.

3x9x40 in which ever one tickles your fancy. On the range I generally use full power for sighting in and have yet to own or shoot a scope that shifted POI when adjusting the power that was functioning properly.

Good luck

What Skeeter 7MM said works for me and ifI had one that changed the POI when I was changing power it wouldn't be mine for long .

ryncam16

Take a close look at the Burris 3-9x40 with the Ballistic Plex reticle. With these scopes you sight in dead on at 100 Yds and the BPle3x reticle has additional aim points for 200, 300, 400, & 500 Yds.

Here is a link to a thread on Accurate Reloading where folks are sharing their results with this type of reticle.

You can usually find them for under $200 and they are an excellent value for the money. I've got one on my Rem 700 Mtn LSS 7mm-08 and just love it.

I used to get real high powered scopes but figured out on my long range rifles is the only place for them but on my typical east coast hunting, all I need is 1.5-5, maybe 2-7X33. It has came in real handy being very versitile. Behind my house all shots are under 15 yards, and a 3X can be too much for my taste. On the eastern shore of maryland, shots can be long, and 7X is all you will ever need there.

On my STW's and 300RUM's, I have or had 4.5-14 and 3.5-10, but those rifle serve a different purpose.

For a first scope get a 3x9x40 and don't worry about reticles with several crosshairs as they will likely only cause confusion for an inexperienced shooter. The elite 3200 is a good scope for the money.
