i have a rem. 700 bdl in 30-06 and know others that have them and love them like me. they're definately a great gun. i do like the idea of the accutrigger but i got my trigger worked on so it's just as good.

it's possible but you may have to look. there's a good chance you can. mine is used and in great shape. i got it for like $425 plus the scope. just look and you should find one. good luck.

I have a stainless Model 116 Savage with a Burris Fullfield II scope and both exceeded my expectations. The 116 and Remington 700 are cant go wrong choices in my opinion.

Have you given any thought to buying a used rifle with scope? You could probably find a good rifle with scope for the money you have. By good I mean something alot better than the scope that comes on the Savage. Savage rifles are good but the premounted scopes they come with are hideous.

I am assuming that the Simmons that comes on the Savage is similar to the Simmons that came on my Model 70 Super Shadow from Walmart. It turned out to be disposable, as I broke off one of the adjusting turrret when trying to zero the rifle. It is real cheap, probably one of their 8 point models. It might hold up through your initial sight in attempts, but I would not bet on it. Better to try to pick up a Stevens 200 with a Burris Fullfield II, Bushnell Elite 3200, Sightron SII, Nikon Buckmaster or Weaver V9 with a set of Burris or Leupold rings and bases. Am very confident you could get everything you need within your $575 budget.

Ordered a Rem. 700 BDL 30-06 from Wal-Mart for $550 not too long ago. Beautiful and good shooting rifle! IMO - don't disgrace a rifle worth any quality w/ a $50-$100 scope though. I threw on a Leupold VX II 3-9x40 which set me back $275 and I'm very pleased. My next scope will prolly be a Leupold VX III, Nikon, or Zeiss, but of course I have to buy a new rifle for that

If you go with a package deal, toss the scope and get a better one! These scopes are usually cheap Simmons, or other cheap brands! The Simmons Aetec is a really good scope for the money, but the Aetec is not the scope that you'll get in a package!
I think that the cheap-ness of the scopes in package deals really makes these deals less than a "bargain!" What bargain is there when you have to replace part of the package as soon as you get it?
I think that you'd be better served buying a used gun, and get a better model scope put on it!
As for the original question on the two rifles, the Savage is a good gun, the Remington 700 will be a good one too! Personally, I'd get a Winchester Black Shadow!
