Default remington model 710

I know a lot of people dont like the remington model 710 but i got one in a .270 for a x-mas present almost two years ago. i just put a new scope on it and i have been happy with the gun as it has done its job. the bolt is a little hard and annoying but i was still happy with it. Well until now that is. i put a new scope on it and was fiddling around with it. i cycled the bolt a few times and now it is stuck!!!! [:@]i can get it "unlocked" but it will not slide back further than a 1/4 in. or so. i have not messed with the gun at all and it was fine after i put the scope on it for awhile. i just hope that if something is majorly wrong the warranty covers it even though i didnt register it till today. the 2 year warranty will be up around x-mas so i am glad it happened now. anyone know any way to fix it or things to check? there are no gunsmiths in my small town. i want to fix it myself if i can as long as it is minor. i hope it is fixable. also what could i get from a pawn shop, cabelas etc. for a used remington model 710 .270 that is 2 years old and hasnt been used a whole lot or abused at all? it has less than 150 rounds fire through it and been baby its entire life. maybe i will end up selling it and getting something else after it is fixed of course. i suppose it will not be too much but i hope it is a good chunk to put towards another gun! i love my 870 express to death but i guess the model 710 is bad as people say. damnit

Take off your scope, including mounts and see if the problem remains. It is not uncommon for newly mounted scope mounts (i.e. their machine screws)toextend thru the receiver metal and then interfer with the bolt beneath. Since your problem and the newly mounted scope arrived at the same time, that is my suspicion.
Good luck with your 710; not my fav, but sounds like the price was right.

Just use it for a doorstop and go get a Ruger 77.

Just use it for a doorstop and go get a Ruger 77.
Then you'll have two doorstops.

already checked the recall and mine is not included and the scope isnt the problem. I never touched the base on the riflei just took the rings off the old scope and put them on the new one. it worked fine after i put the scope on. it worked a few times after the scope was on and then all of a sudden it locked up. so lets say i get it fixed how much can i get out of it. i counted the casings and so far i havent even shot it 100 times.

well i was messing with it and i took the rings off the base and was going to take the base off even though i am pretty sure there is not problem there since i have not touched the base at all and i decided to give it one more try before taking the base off. i held the gun and hit the bolt fairly hard and it slide back. i was amazed and happy, but then i slide it forward and it stopped in the same position it got stuck in when i wanted to back it out. i have to hit it fairly hard to get it to slide forward enought to lock it or all the way back it is like the 1/2 inch or so before i can lock the bolt down. any ideas? i jinxed myself saying that the 710 wasnt as bad as they said it was. i emailed remington but since it is the labor day weekend pry wont get a reply for awhile..... anyone want to buy a remington model 710 in .270? lol

If it isn't the mounting screws grabbing on the bolt maybe it is the pressed in barrel loosening up enough to twist ever so slightly slightly causing the bolt lugs to catch against the receiver and making the bolt stick. You said it moves about 1/4 of an inch. That is about the ammount of steel behind the lug seats machined into the barrel. The bolt would be able to move rearward until the back of the lugs came into contact with the receiver.

Take a black magic marker and color the entire bolt in black. Put it back in the gun and pull it back out. Tell us where the marker is worn off. I bet it is right on a corner edge of one or both of the bolt lugs.

If it's not the base screws causing it and it's what Bigbulls discribed.Your best bet is pack it up and ship it to Remington. When you get it back I would suggest selling it. You can get a Savage for about the same money as a 710 and get a much better rifle.I'm sorry to hear of your problem with your 710.Good luck.

i am pretty sure that it is the bolt lugs hitting. what caused this all of a sudden? after i get it fixed any idea how much i can get out of it? how long does it take them to fix it? i have some time before deer season opens but not too much :|
