Don't use the Nosler Ballistic Tips for elk hunting - particularly in high velocity rifles. They will blow up before they reach the vitals. Something more like Partitions orAccubonds, if you like the Nosler line of products, would work much better.

I have taken 8 elk and2 moose with180gr ballistic tips out of my 300ultramags.They most definitely did not blow up before reaching the vitals. In fact all but one bullet exited and the one that was recovered penetrated both front shoulders of an elk and was found against the hide. That being said,I myself am switching to the barnestsx this year as it does provide some insurance incase broadside lung shots are not available.

SJ,
Say it aint so !!!!! You have been dropping heavy game with those Btips for quite a while now. Why switch now ? I tried the accubond last year and wasn't real impressed, thinking I might try the Barnes next time but all we got drawn for this year is a Blackpowder moose zone so we're doing it a little differently this year! LoL!!!

Well Terry, while the ballistic tips have always performed well for me,I was always very particular of the shots that I took.I would not shoot unless a broadside lungshot was offered and I did pass up a couple of shots over the last few years because of the shot angles.Since chances at good bulls aren't all that common,I decided to look for a bullet that would offer sufficient penetration at less than ideal angles.I did try the 180gr accubond but they would not do better than MOA in either of my rifles. The tsx's are averaging 3/4 MOA in both rifles and offer great penetration as well so I will be switching to them this fall. However I will still be using the 140gr ballistic tip in my 7mmstw'sfor deer, pronghorn and bighorn since I simply don't need the extra penetration on game of this size.
