Default scope price

I was just looking in my 2004 Shooter's Bible and it shows that the Leupold Vari X III rifle scopes are 500-800 dollars. I know that can't be true, but Leupold's website doesnt list prices either. Can anyone tell me what price im generally gonna be paying for a Leupold? I have also heard Simmons Aetec is a pretty popular scope. Is Simmons a less expensive/good quality scope?

Yep that's about right. Actually the VariX III scopes start at $400 and run up to 800. The cost depends on what kind of scope you get, for example, the VX I runs from $180 to 270 and the VX II from 300 to 450. Look at cabelas' website and you will see all the prices of the different scopes leupold has at www.cabelas.com
I'll admit I haven't used a simmons scope, and yes they are a cheaper brand but don't know about the quality but am sure that it isn't anywhere near the leupold. If you are looking at getting the best brand between the two then the leupold is the way to go. JMO

The Aetec is as good as any scope under 500 dollars. I have Leuplods as well but I wouldn't buy another. The Aetec is just a good dependable, tough and reasonable priced scope. You need not spend any more than they cost unless you just plain want to. The Nikon Pro-Staff is another pretty low cost scope that will do the job day in and day out for many years. Leupold are good scopes but anymore with their imported glass, They just don't rule anymore.

i am deffinately not looking for expensive. i am going to purchase my first ever deer rifle and first ever scope, hopefully in a month or two. i dont have a job and only 400 in the account, but several large sums of money should come in with the selling of a few items and my birthday. so if its a good quality scope i'd go with the Aetec and have a little more money for ammo.
