Default Weatherby Mark V 270 WM

Any opinions on this rifle and cartridge. I know ammo is expensive, but fairly available from checking around. The rifle is one of the best looking guns I have ever seen (production anyway). I have the opportunity to pick one up for about $900.00 with a Variax III attached. It is from the ***an yeaars.

A quick check of the ballistics of that caliber doens't require a PhD in physics to tell that's it's darned fast and can really reach out and touch something.

That scope is probably worth 250 bucks by itself and it's rare to see any Mk V deluxes with calibers at or below the ever-popular 300 Weatherby go for anything less than 900 bucks or so. Mk V deluxe's are just awesome looking rifles.

I think it's a steal and if the gun/scope combo were in 95+ type condition, I'd buy that SOB and walk away smilin'.

A quick search on gunbroker or gunsamerica will show you nothing below 950 for the gun by itself.

That scope would cost you 300 bucks new, plus rings and bases would be another 50.

Like I said, buy it and walk away smilin.

pinto ol buddy ol boy ol palsy walsy...

I would NOT buy that gun and walk away... I would buy it and HAUL ASS before someone changes their mind or figures out they are taking about $500 less than it's worth!!!

If for some reason you DON'T want it, I would gladly pay you $100 cashola for the info on where it is and if it is in as described condition I would buy it YESTERDAY!!!

If it was anything like the Mark V that I had, It is still priced double what it worth. Of all the rifles I have had and thats a lot, the Mark V was the biggest POS I ever owned. It look awful pretty but thats where it stopped. Mine was a 300 Weatherby. The trigger was beyond horable and it didn't shoot half as good as the Vanguards and nowhere near as good as the Savage I replaced it with. Good Luck According to my Manuals, you will gain a couple hundred feet per second over the 270 Win..

Most likely, the reason it didn't shootWAS the trigger, if it was really that bad. You should have just replaced the trigger, or had the one that was on it repaired. Pinto, your getting a freaking steal on that gun for $900.00. If you don't buy it, I will.

That is an excellent price for the rifle & scope combo. It's a good price for just the rifle. The 270 WM is an excellent round and Federal has two loads available for it now. A 130 gr. Nosler solid base and a 140 gr. TBBC. You also have all the loads available from Weatherby. The ballistics are great and for deer and antelope you aren't going to get a flatter shooter. The cartridge will also cleanly take elk also.
