Default Remington 700 25-06...??

My father picked one up at an auction this weekend. Appears to be in great condition and came with a nice scope. I've always hunted with a 243 or 270, so noconfidence issues with this caliber for deer. Anybody else have this gun? Any positives/negatives we should know about? $300 agood deal?

I shoot a Rem 700 Classic 25.06. I really love this caliber, it's a flat shooter with mild recoil and man does it do a number on deer. It's also accurate and easy to load for.You didn't say if it was abdl or adl but if the gun is in good condition, shoots accurate and your happy with it then $300 sounds like a great deal to me. Good luck with the new gun.

I haven't actually seen the gun yet, just know what my father has told me about it so far, so I don't know if its a bdl or adl. I'm anxious to get it on the range and see how it does.

Excellent deer and pronghorn round. I have a Smith & Wesson 1500 in 25-06. This is one of the few rifles I own that I quit reloading for. I shoot 115 gr. Winchester Ballistic Silver-Tips out of mine. I shoot nice little 3/8" 3-shotgroups at 100 yards with this rifle. I would choose a bullet of 115-120 grains for deer hunting unless you want to try the new 110 gr. Accubond load or the 100 Barnes X load available from Federal. My rifle hated the Barnes load and shot 3" groups at 100 with that load.

I have the 25-06 but in the Ruger rifle. Its a great caliber and is effective as heck on deer and varmits. This all with the 100 grain bullet. I shoot 100 grain Ballistic tips in mine. I have used the 115 grain BT's as well but could see little difference in performance between the 100 and 115 grain bullet.

that is a really great price for that gun. and the gun is in a great caliber for whitetails. Infact, the son of the man who taught me how to hunt has had one for many years and that was the only rifle he has ever used for deer. then of coarse he uses his shotgun in southern zone too.
