I'll try to keep this short, I hunted from the age of 12 to 18 ('92-'98) during hunting season '96 my step dad got very angry with me for passing on a shot that I didn't feel comfortable taking. After that argument I wouldn'thunt with him or his group again. I went afew times more by myself during the next couple of years with no luck. Then I gave it up. Now I'm married and my father in-law is big into hunting so I think I'm going to give it a "shot" again. I have average shooting skills and spent most of my trigger time behindone of my step dad's Browning 7mm Rem Mag's orWinchester .270 and plenty of plinking withmy SKS (The only gun I have personally owned). So I just bought some new equipment and I would like some feedback, Please. This is what I purchased at the local gun store and the price I paid after Tax.
Stevens Model 200 in the 7mm Rem Mag, flavor $302.96
Leupold Rifleman mounts and rings $26.54
Nikon Buckmasters 3-9x40 $181.86
I can get a Monarch UCC new for $235 but is the extra $50 really worth it if I don't hunt at night
I want to use Federal Premium Accubond in 140 grain, but cant find them anywhere, so how about the Ballistic Tip in 140 or 150 for Texas Whitetails. Anyway I want my dollar to go the absolute furthest it can for accuracy, looks mean nothing to me. Nothing has been opened yet so I can exchange anything. Is this thehot ticketor should I changemy setup.

It should serve you just fine. Their has been a lot of talk about the Stevens 200. Many people feel it is a lot of gun for the money. I think you picked good rings/bases, and the scope should work great. Good luck this upcoming deer season.
Sounds like you have a pretty good equipment package. Alot value for the dollar.
Any factory loaded 140gr BT bullet in a 7mm Magwill work well on those Texas whitetails.
You might want to tryFederal's load, I've had a lot of luck with them in the past.

You got a fine little rig there. I will also give you a BIG thumbs up for sticking to your guns and not taking a shot you werent comfortable with. I have let many marginal shots go as well over the years. We are talking about a living creaturehere...so the animals we hunt deserve nothing but our best effort and the utmost of respect! Them wing and prayer deals usually end up in a lot of pain and suffering for animal and hunter alike. Keep up the good work and best of luck to ya in your adventures with that new tack driver.
What do ya'll think about the Nikon Buckmaster vs. the Monarch UCC, will the extra $50 be well spent? I know that the Monarch really excels in low light situations, however, how does it comparein the bright sunlight? IfI look through both of them in the store (bad place to try to compare) they seem identical, so why spend the extra money. Anyonecompare these in real life situations.[/align]

Yeah, I paid probablly could have gotten a littlebetter deal for the rifle. ($279.87 before taxes), but they cut me such a good deal on the Nikon Buckmaster ($168.00 before tax) that I guess it all washes out in the end. Right???
