In part one I showed you it has the sectional density for penetration
Now i'll show how its stays on its path
This is from federals web site. 10 mph crosswind@ 500yds
and bullet drop@ 500yds with a zero@200yds
key: SGK= sierra game king
........NP= nosler Partition
........NBT= nosler ballistic tip
........NAB= nosler accubond
DROP THE SUBJECT!!! We all know you think the .243 is king, now get over it!!!
We all know how well the .243 fairs in the trajectory department, but that has nothing to do with what the bullet does once it gets there!! And within the normal hunting ranges anyway (inside 300 yds), there is not enough difference in trajectory or wind drift among the high-powered cartridges (with a few exceptions) to make a difference when it hits the game the bullet was designed for!! And just going off of what the charts say means absolutely nothing anyway, because every person shoots each gun different, so you have to get out and check at those ranges to see what that peticular load does in that rifle with YOU shooting it!!!

From part 1: Hey Zrex,
Even I can't believe this thread is still going
I don't much care for the 243Win. except for varmints (news flash, right? , but this is nuts!
I'll leave ya' alone for using it on deer, if you'll leave me to my 358Win.
Ha,ha - "can't we all just get along?"
Got to admit, this thing has been fun though, if we don't take it too seriously

Well, then, I guess not. THIS IS WAR!
243Win. is a VARMINT cartridge, barely minimum for deer and antelope, and way too small for anything bigger (ie, elk, moose, and bear).
It was invented for folk who can't handle the gentle recoil of a genuine deer cartridge such as the 270Win., 308, or 30-06.
Zrex and I think on somewhat on the same level. I feel that some people on the forum hear all these bad things about using small calibers on deer and such without ever using one for that purpose and then go on to (with second hand information) bad mouth smaller cartridges. Dont get me wrong I hunt with a 7mm mag and a 300 win mag, but i also hunt with a 22-250. I think we are all entitled to use what we see fit and legal so everyone needs to stop bad mouthing something soley on second hand information. I firmly believe that if you wound a deer with a 22-250 or 243 its your fault not the cartridge's fault. Honestly have any of you who bad mouth the 243 ever seen what it does to a deer? I guess not because if you have you wouldnt be talkin smack about it.

Follow those same loads above out to your 500 yards. Now list the ME of each. 243 @ 500 yards= 924 ME. 280 @ 500 Yards= 1371 ME. From Nosler. 100 grain 243 and 150 grain 280. Both BT design. Anyway to my way of thinking 500 yards is to far to shoot at deer with either. I like to limit shots to about 250 yards. I might consider 300 if all conditions are near perfect.
