Default 7mm Rem. Mag recoil

How much more will a 7 mag kick than a .270? If both of the rifles were equal ( weight, manufacture). I bearly notice any recoil from the 270 rem bdl. I don't think that the 7 mag will be much worse. Thanks for any input.

Oh my gosh, the recoil is going to be so horrible. Might knock your arm off.

lol. I don't think so. It can't be that bad or peoplewouldn't use it. I don't think it will be as bad as my 50.

IMO, Its the hardest kicker for what you get out of it that I have used. Its in how they fit you but my 300 Win Mags nidn't hit my shoulder like the 7MM's do. I had five 7 MM Mags and Three 300 Win Mags. I hunted a lot with many calibers and as far as performance on Game (not paper) I can't see any difference on game between the 270, 280 30-06 and 7MM Mag.

You will definitely notice the recoil from a 7mm Mag but it isn't going to kill you. It will hit you a bit harder than a .30-06. As with any centerfire rifle you should be careful to ensure adequate eye relief so the scope doesn't belt you.

If you shoot more than a few rounds of any centerfire, a recoil shield of some sort is a good idea. It not only helps avoid a flinch, it will also help prevent cumulative damage to your rotator cuff. I like the PAST recoil shield, which straps onto your shoulder.

Recoil control isn't about being sissy or macho, it's about managing your accuracy potential and preventing soft tissue damage.

I find the 7mmremmag to provide noticeably less recoil than an identical rifle in 300winmag and only very slightly more recoil than a 30-06.

A 7mm Rem. Mag with 150 grain bullet delivers 19.2 ft. lbs. of recoil. Your 270 Win, 16.5, a 30:06 with 180 grain bullet = 20.3 ft. lbs. I shoot a 165 grain SST in 7mm Rem. Mag with a recoil of 19.4 ft. lbs. of recoil. People seem to think when you see MAG your in for a nasty kick. If that MAG is a 375 H&H or 470 Nitro, yes, you better know how to shoot a big bore, but a 7mm Mag., you will have no problems. http://www.chuckhawks.com/recoil_table.htm

Robert, you may get a hundred responses to this, but in the end, it's really comes down to how well you handle felt recoil. Some folks flinch when shooting a .243, while others can shoot big magnum calibers without any trouble. It really depends on how well the gun fits you, how its loaded, bullet weight etc.. I don't know why you're thinking of switching to the 7Mag, but if the 270 does the job, then why fix something thats not broken. just my .02

From my experience a 7 mag kicks not much more then a 30-06. A 270 kicks about the same as a 308 and a 308 kicks slighlty less then a 30-06.
