Default fishfinder..what to do..Interphase DC-500 or new?

I have an Interphase DC-500 that needs $70 + shipping worth of accessories to make it work. I was told that this was a good unit, but my question is..how good? Since it was $350 made in probably 1997, is it as good as a $125 unit today? Should I scrap it and buy an Eagle, or is it a good enough unit that putting $70-$80 into it would give me a better unit than a modern $125 unit?
