Default understanding which transducer will work

If I have an obsolete fish finder and need a transducer, can I use one from a different manufacturer if the plug is the same? I have been told if the cone angle and freq are the same it will work.....is this correct?

In theory yes but I bet you will have problems with it. Most of the different units have different plug sets. New basic units are really pretty cheap now so I would opt to replace it with a new unit.
