Bleeding Bait Hooks

I have been seeing bleeding bait hooks on tv
And in the stores

Has any one used them ?

And do they really work ?

Are they as good as what people are saying or is it just a new fad ?

Your talking about the red "bleeding" hooks? I bought a couple of packs this winter to try out. What the heck, Ill try anything when it comes to fishing[8D]

I did pick up a pack of red treble hooks to replace on some older crank baits I got. Im going to put a balck on on the tail end and the red one under the belly. So I'll see if that works in a month or two......

I know some of the bass pros change out the standard treble hooks on crank baits to red hooks. I am not convinced yet but plan to try it this spring.

I really dont buy into it.I think it`s just another gimmic for the companies to make more $.There`s no scent to them so whats the big deal?I had to use them for striper fishing once this year-not a bite.I also went on a Drum fishing trip in the spring and we used them-nothing but sharks.

do fish see in color? if so then the red hooks might make a differance if not then I agree with some earliers post

i had a bleeding spinnerbait and never caught anything other than a few small bass with it. I have never tried the blood red hooks or anything, but I doubt I will buy anymore spinnerbaits. I think its just a way for the companies to make a little more money.

Just took a seminar from a WV outfitter who fishes the New River. He swears by these things.... He claims that he has been painting his hooks for 3 years now and that it makes a difference. He was surprised to see them on the market.

my friend got a buzz bait a bleeding one and it worked good when the bass were hiting on top water they would just slam it over and over again.

I dont' know if bleeding hooks make a heck of a lot of difference, but I swear by using a bleeder lip on most of my topwater and crainkbaits. I've noticed a huge difference in # of fish caught using a bleeder lip as opposed to not. I do have bleeder hooks on everything as well. I don't think there can be anything negative about having them on. So if it helps, fine..........if not oh well it will still hook them. But I seldom throw a Topwater bait without the red lip.

I honestly don't know how much of a difference they make. I tested it out this summer with tubes and smallmouths. I used 3 1/2" YUM Garret Mega Tubes in Junebug with a Gamakatsu 2/0 EWG and Owner wide gap cutting point hooks in 2/0. I had them Texas rigged with 1/8 oz bullet weights. Fishing in about 13 feet of water with a rocky, snaggy bottom. I had a good number of catches on this set up. After i got bit off by a northern twice and had some break offs because of line abrasion, i ran low on the standard hooks and switched to Diachi 2/0 Fat Gap bleeding bait hooks. I really didn't notice a differencein the strike number. I really dont know, i think im going to experiment more with red stuff this year.
