Default Fly Fishing for Smallmouth

I have a quick question. What flys would you use to catch smallmouth bass. I was wondering, cause i fly fish a lot for trout, and was wondering what kinda flies to use.

Where do you fish at? I am in Alabama, and we have no trout here. I have never tried fly fishing and actually posted a question about it in the regional forum (South) today. If you live in the south you might watch that thread and see what replies I get. Otherwise I can't help you, as I have no fly experience. [:-]

You rang!?

Clouser Minnows: Chartruese/White or "Baby Smallmouth" are my most productive colors.
Clouser Crayfish: Olive or Brown
Clouser Floating Minnows: Same as the Reg. minnows.

I also use Hellgramite patterns, Various sized/colored Wooly buggers

And don't overlook Mayfly and Caddisfly hatches.....if you see a large hatch such as the Eastern 'White fly' hatch you can match the hatch and really do well.....usually go a size or 2 larger than the naturals to get noticed. Smallmouth can be picky but they aren't nearly as selective as trout.

We do real well here in Indiana rivers with "stone fly buggers" Tied similar to a brown wooly bugger but with a swiss straw shell case on the back, Tie the swiss straw in at the head, make small loops and tie in aprox 1/8th or less back and repeat to give the case a rippled look. Pull the palmered hackle out between the wraps with a dubbing needle to give the effect of legs. Clousers are also an excellant choice. I like to use a little crystal flash in the tail to make them easier to see. Also Dahlberg divers and muddler minnows are favorites. Go get 'em!

Take an hour or so drive up to the Hamburg / Reading area and hit the Schuylkill River.
River is filled with Smallies........I like the area in around Berne / Centerport a few miles below Hamburg.

I just started getting into fishing seriously this year, do you know any hotspots in this area? I have good luck with large mouth and an accidental tiger muskie at marsh creek lake.
