What is good equipment for catchin catfish?

Right now I have an Ugly Stik with 12 lb test. I don't think it's heavy dutty enough. What do you suggest I use.

i use 12 pound test also. it is plenty. dont go to a higher poundage i think you are fine the way you are.

ugly sticks are hard to beat for tough rods, 12 lb should be fine

Yea I love my Ugly Stik but I gave all my equipment to my brother so I'm getting all new stuff.

17# is my go to line. I've got in 30 + cats on that line.

I use 7' Berkley Bionix Rods,Abu-Garcia 6500 C-3 reels,20# stren or Ande.Usually don't have many problems .When the Flatheads run I'll jack the line up to 30#.Keeps me from having to chase them down the river .(Most of the time)

I have a Zebco 33, it's not much but is a good closed reel and can let sit as I wait and go back and forth from rods. I'm goin to egt all new equipment soon

12 lb is what most of the local fishing gurus use down at the local shop for cats. Don't know about the rods though as I have not really taken notice when they come in.
