Default Crappie fishing in late April

I am going camping this weekend in western Oklahoma with some buddies and plan on doing some crappie and catfishing from the shore. Any tips? Thanks....

Default RE: Crappie fishing in late April

hickman are ya fishing a lake or farm pond? I live in Duncan and talk to a lot the local crappie fisherman on a regular basis. They have been catching some good numbers in the last couple of weeks. Most of them were fishing minnows under a boober in shallows. Back in my younger days I used to spend a lot of time crappie fishing, now just bass fish. I used to use a fly rod with a spin cast reel on it. I would wade the shallows and catch crappie in 1 to 2 feet of water on Doll Fly jigs. We called it plunking in Texas but was a lot of fun and real productive. Can't help a lot on the catfish, there are some good ones to be caught in western Oklahoma just fish some good ol nightcrawlers on bottom and you might be suprised what ya catch. Good luck and be safe.
