Default Yo YO automatic fishing reel

Have any of you used these. This is a fishing reel that you attach to a dock or tree limb and it automatically sets the hook and reels in the fish.
I got a great deal on these through "Cheaper than Dirt" catalog. 12 reels
for $25. I plan on setting these up like bush hooks for catfish.

Check your regs! They were outlawed in Texas about 10 years ago. Folks were hanging them too high and a lot of smaller fish got turned into catfish jerky by the time the owners came around to check on them. The reels would pull them completely out of the water and they sun dried in no time. The problem got so bad they finally made them illegal.

The spring in this reel isnt strong enough to pull the fish out of the water but the tension is enough to keep the hook in the fish.
As far as WHY someone would fish this way. Same reason someone would fish with bush lines, trotlines, jug fishing, or any other legal means for catching a mess of fish. I fish with a rod and reel but I also set bush lines to add to my catch. These reels will work in spots where I cant find a decent tree limb to attach a bush line.
