Anybody have any good advice or tips for fleas on the line when trolling?? Aside from the flea flicker you buy that doesn't work??

Ever ride a motorcycle without a face shield during sand fly season by the lakes?

My son caught a fish with lill mutant(4) legs once at nite, in the niagara river.

Quote:
Spiny water fleas - a type of crustacean measuring up to one-half inch long - had invaded Lake Huron by 1984 and spread to every Great Lake by 1987. To date, they have moved to inland lakes in Michigan, Minnesota and southern Ontario in Canada.

Scientists suspect that the critter - whose spiny, sharp tail makes up half its body length - first arrived in North America in water carried aboard freighters from European ports.
What they are is a huge pain in the butt. When your trolling they get all over your line. The rough it up and you can't reel them through your guides.

accckkkkkkkkkk they get so bad sometimes you can't even fish. If you hook a fish trolling with a bad flea problem, you'll have a tough time landing it. It's like little cotton balls all over your line and when you reel your line in it gets into a big wad at the top eye. The little bits that make it through cause havic on your spool. Funny thing is they could be gone in a day or two and not be back for who knows how long. I'm not sure of the conditions that favor them or why they show up at certain times of the year, but they are a pain.
