mjn, the 301 is a lefthanded version of the 300. is the anti reverse on the back of the reel straight and moves up or down or is it triangle shaped? also is it black in color? if it is it is probably from the 1970's. I have three of the 300's and love them.

Yup I have a 301 my dear old Mom bought me for Xmas sometime is the late 70's. I just found it the other day and took it to camp and kids were using it off the dock. Nice to see it up and running. I believe they had deep and shallow spools. Great reels for their day.
