Default Hard and soft water for Chuck..

Hi Chuck I was thinking of you when I took this pic today.. It is a Coast Guard Ice Breaker going up the Penobscot River in the Bangor, Maine area.. This is the first time I had ever saw one in action and did it make a lot of noise.. It may look like water but all around it is ice..

Thanks for sharing the pics Phil. It's an awesome sight, to watch one of those powerful ice breakers work.
Yeah - this is a weird winter here. Two nights ago it was 8 below zero, yesterday, the temp went up to 40 above zero and it rained all night, and melted most of the snow, and there is a small lake in a low spot in my yard and my driveway is like a skating rink. Solid ice and glass smooth. I got to go out and spread sand on it or the UPS driver wont come in.
Buckhunte14 is right - it aint even half over yet, and the worst - as far as the snow - is yet to come. Some years, we get most of our snowfall in March and early April, so you never know up here.
The ice fishing is just getting good, where we can drive our trucks all over some of the lakes.

Yeah Chuck, we are going to be a while before we can wear any shorts or anything.. LOL The winter here has been really crazy with temps today running at 51 degrees out.. 2 nights ago it was down to -11 out..

Warren here we have to be carefull this year with our ice.. It is quite spotty with 3 people drowning this past weekend. No chance of driving on the ice for now at least and I am not sure if West Grand Lake will be ready on opening day.. ( Feb. 1 ) We have had people walking and as well as snowsleds and ATVs going threw it.. So excercise caution my friend if you have been getting the same kind of weather..

Hey Phil, Thanks for the caution - but here on Lake Memphremagog we have at least 16 inches of good hard ice and I've been driving my full size Pickup all over it. I was out today till the miserable wind drove me off, plus the perch quit biting. There have been cars and trucks on this lake for more than a week and no one went through so far.

Warren we to have 12 to 16 inches of ice on some of our lakes as well. Though even our smaller lakes were still open in the middle less than a week ago.. I will still suggest that you becarefull if you have any of this strange weather we have been getting hit with.. By now we should normally be around 2 feet plus of ice.. But not even close to that this year.. I am still hopeing West grand will be ok for traveling on in time for opening day.. here is a link to what our weather has been like..
http://www.wcsh6.com/news/article/18...hoolsports.net I am 2 hours North East of Bangor and we hit 51 today.
