During the dog days of summer my catch rate plummeted, but now that the nights are longer, the days are colder, and the water temp is dropping, the bite has picked up. The lure that I am having the most success with right now is a Lake Fork Takle 5" Hyper Worm in Watermelon Seed Red Flake. Im using a 3/16 ounce sinker, fishing it in about 12-15 feet of water, letting it sink to the bottom, then pulling it quickly off the bottom as soon as the weight hits dirt. The paddle tail creates a LOT of vibration that you can feel through the rod and most hits come right after I quit my quick pull off the bottom, basically the instant it begins it's drop.
A cheaper alternative to the Lake Fork Tackle Hyper Worm is the ZOOM Speed Worm. I have gotten good results with it, and it lasts longer, but the LFT Hyper Worm has produced more consistantly and the paddle on the LFT kicks out a lot farther to the side on retrieval.
The bass are starting their fall feeding frenzy and I actually saw a school of shad being chased a few nights ago so I am starting to get excited about the upcoming fall fishing. I hope everybody is having good luck with their fishing adventures, staying safe and keeping tight lines.
The early fall generally is a great time for FL as well...however ; around late NOV bass fishing here comes to a sceeching halt.
I thought about fishing tomorrow but I'm leaning toward one more trip to the shooting range with my
Black Powder
30-30 Marlin
and 270 Remington 700
need to make sure I'm dead on at 100 yds. I drew a 3 day quota permit for black powder this year..
My biggest bass I 've hooked was in the early fall..a 12 plus..on a Rooster tail..I generally do very well with Rooster tail this time of the year..Down here..the fish tend to school more in the fall making for a fun outing. Most of our fall fish are smaller
sounds good, i like th LFT stuff, i have a couple of friends that send me stuff every now and then, but i have told them it could be a little more durable...i got to fish wed morning and all day thur. we caught 7-8 fish wed. and around 12 on thurs. we resorted mainly to junk fishing and never really put anything solid together....will be glad when the guntersville frog bite and wake'ing a spinnerbait works, two fun ways to fish

Yeah, if i get 2 fish off of 1 hyper worm I'm lucky. That seems to only hold true on the "Hyper" lineup though. The rest of their lineup holds up pretty decent as a whole, but the "Hyper" lineup just seems to tear up quick. In the spring Im going to try their hyper lizard along side some ZOOM Lizards and a package of lizards that C7 gave me as well that have done decent.
Aaron..we just got about 6 inches of rain..so our swamps are too deep for my liking to bow hunt..I plan to fish against my 2 sons this Sat..for fun..LOL to a brand new lake...I will do the ole pitching black trick worm..Matt will crank and drift a worm..last week a friend got an 8 pounder on a shiner..The lake is called Deer Lake..I haven't even seen it yet..On the map it looks small enough to cover the entire thing in a 1/2 day..lot's of pads and grass..a docks...Last week this Walmart worker was the only one fishing..I know this man from Walmart..He mans the sporting goods desk..We share hunting/fishing tips weekly...His name is Chuck too.
He had caught 8 bass there last week drifting wild shiners...
Sounds like a darn good upcoming trip, hopefully you whoop em' both, haha. You and that black trick worm are a tough competitor so they better have their "A" game when they get out there, they're gonna need it.
I've been waiting for the longest time to take my son out fishing on the boat with just me and him, and it looks like I will be able to do that today for the first time. He made all A's on his recent grade sheet and so we are going to go out and fish as a reward. He has been on the boat a lot, but its always with mom and sister as well when we pull the tube or go swimming. So today, it will just be us fishing, I will be taking pictures for sure
I went out this past saturday on a power plant lake (water 89 degrees at night) but only got to fish it for about 45 minutes. Pulled into a cove about an hour after sunset, tossed a Junebug Ol' Monster with 3/16 bullet weight unpegged around some concrete structure, and pulled in two decent bass. I was stoked, it was the first time that I ever looked at a map, made a plan, found a spot that I thought would hold bass, put the boat in, motored to the spot and actually had the plan work out like it was supposed to, it was great, haha.

Have a great day, C7
About 2 weeks ago I was leaving the country club where my wife works and there were about 10-12 deer bedded down in the grassy median that separates the two sides of their parking lot. The kids and I walked over to them and watched them from about 10 yards away and they just sat there looking at us. I was standing there thinking "Chuck wouldn't believe this" but I didn't have a camera on me. The deer are crazy around here, they are everywhere. I will probably take a deer here at the office on one of my lunch breaks if I get the urge, its just ridiculous the amount of deer here.
