Went out this morning...my best was this 3 1/2 pounder..note the little 6 incher on the bottom. The worm is as long as the bass.Note the rattles and painted split shot. The rattles are supposed to be hidden in the rubber worm..this little guy knocked them out.LOL

It appears that back pit where you and I fished is probably the best spot in the park..very little pressure and decent fish on the average..

THis is the last weekend...so Matt and I are going after a trophy..LOL I'm hoping my depth finder can help us . The New Mooon is Friday..should be an ok weekend..plus we have a hurricane to our east..don't know how that will effect us.

Have a nice weekend..It won't be long and the rods and reels will be oiled and stored and I'll be inventoring my hunting gear,,,seeing what needs to be replaced . Our bows are right on johnny on the spot. Our first day of archery is Sept. 16th.

Hopefully you get a nice sized deer this year.

My fishing will be taking a back seat as well. The motor on my boat is shot, cylinder #2 is knocking all over the place and is only holding about 1/4 of the required compression so a $3700 rebuild is now in the works....looks like I'll be selling some toys here pretty soon and my hunting for this year is out of the question.

I am sorry to hear about your boat motor. The old fellows boat motor I used to go fishing with had the same problem. At the time it was still quite new when that had happened. He was in his early eighties and the middle cylinder went. It happened three times on him. Finaly he had the oil injection plugged off and started mixing his oil to cure it. That motor was a Johnson 70.. That is the boat I was given that I just put a new motor on this spring.. I still need to post a pic of it..

Gangly,
I thought you ran the boat and it was fine..did this cylinder mishap happen after you had it..or was it a problem that was covered up and just re surfaced..It was my understanding that the motor purred when you bought it..

Personally ..I'll never have another outboard..I have no one local who I can trust to work on them.

it ran as smooth as can be when I bought it. When i first purchased the boat, i heard the knock but it was initially a very quiet noise and i just figured it was regular noise from the motor. It has now rapidly become super loud. The engine doesn't run particularly rough, but it definately doesnt run as smooth as it should or did, and is steadily getting progressively worse. Not happy with it, but hopefully I will have it completed before the fall fishing has ended. I was really looking forward to fishing this fall .

As far as mechanics go, I have built numerous automobile motors so I am comfortable working with my hands, but I can't seem to find a shop manual for this specific motor and since I have never worked on an outboard I feel more comfortable letting a reputable shop do the work. All motors are basically the same and once you have torn down one, all others come pretty easy. However, outboards are completely new to me and I don't care to make my first one a learning process when I can't even find a rebuild manual for it.

That would be a good choice right now.. Did you try looking on iboats for a manual? They have a manual for almost every boat motor made. I would at least check them out on a manual if you have not already..
