Default canoe vs. kayak

I've floated in a canoe my whole life, but the new thing seems to be kayaks. I've never been in one. Does anyone who has spent time in a canoe and then tried a kayak prefer them? Better control in swift water I figure. My hang ups are 1) it seems I would be sitting lower and it would affect my fishing, and 2) less storage space (no full-size cooler in front of me).

I have 2 kayaks
A 10' and a 14'
Advantage of kayaks is speed, and stability,
Can take kayaks anywhere from calm lakes to open bays to the ocean.
You do have decent space on kayaks depending on size and configuration.

On the 10' I could fit say daypack up front, and small crate or cooler in the back, and generally have tacklebox near my legs,
On the 14' I could fit a full +30lb weekend pack up front in the hull,
Crate and small cooler in the back,
Kayak can carry more than I need for spending 3-4 days in the woods .

The benefit of canoes? much more room. And ability to get up and move about.

I second Terasec's assessment. The fishing isn't hard in a kayak. If you get tired, just kayak over to a secluded area and wade or shore-fish!

I've fished canoe's my whole life and my buddies are into kayak's. I tried a sit-on-top and it was decent but I much prefer the canoe. More room more stable and overall just better to fish from IMO.
