We only borrow the land and sea from our children.
The bass was as well, but it was super long and skinny. It was almost 21 inches but SKINNY. it had a fat belly and had been feeding pretty hard, but the rest of the body looked dilapidated, so hopefully it was just skinny from winter.
Aaron, are you catching these crappie at that private pond?
i caught a load of them once on a private pond in Maryland...I was using a little Rebel minnow as well..it was a floater so I tied a split shot a few inches above it...but for me..the all time most productive crappie lure is a small jig. Either casting and retrieving or slowly trolling.
and the best method..live bait ..minnows.
Matt and I are planning a Lake Jackson trip this Sat. { -; He wants to post some fish.
It was caught on one of the private lakes. I have caught plenty in the past on the two lures mentioned above, but I am going to give a road runner a try as well to see if that might catch something. If I have time, I will pick up some live bait and see how that works as well. Our perch that we stocked at our office pond are getting decent sized now, so I might take a few of those out there with me as well and see if I cant snag a big bass while searching for crappie. I know it won't count for the tourney, but I'm interested to see what I might catch.
I'm sure your perch you are referring to are yellow perch..they are hard to scale but some FINE eatting..we used to have some in a neighbor pond in Maryland..
If ya catch crappie..please try this recipe..since crappie have very fleshy { Mushy}textured meat
Soak in buttermilk ALL night..
then dredge in your flour and cornmeal mixture..
Fry in hot oil till golden brown..if you can afford it {Peanut oil is best.}
The buttermilk somehow firms the meat up very nice..5 stars..my friend.
I got the recipe from a friend in New York...outstanding.
We would not pay the price for peanut oil the last time..so we used Wesson Oil I believe..I tried Corn Oil..did not like it..left a funky taste on my fish..
