Default Trolling motor question

I have a 12v trolling motor and my boat has one 12v battery to run it. Can i add another 12v battery to the set up or will that be too much? Is i can add one should i run it in series or pararell?
Thanks in advance

You can, but its easy to mess up. Here is a link for you to read.It will not give you anymore power, 12v is 12v, just run longer

I agree with both, it will just allow you longer running time, if that is the concern.

My dads' one of the smartest men in the world..{ -; and is also an electricain.
I was interested in this question myself... just called him..here is his answer..

Yes..if you wire the batteries positive to positive and negative to negative you are safe and that is 12 volts..which you can run your motor longer on it.

IF you wire poistive to negative you will have 24 volts..and could ruin your motor as it is wired to run on 12 volts..

UNLESS you have a 24 volt trolling motor

Which trolling motor do you have. I have a variable 55lb with 1 battery and I have about 20% of juice after a good 6-8hrs on the water. Of course I float with the wind/current and usually just have to motor back.
