Please feel free to post wildlife that you have seen while fishing..
I saw these 3 turtles sunning themselves yesterday at Saddle Creek. I don't know my turtles as good as my birds but I beleive these are Florida Red-bellied Turtle.
Here is a Purple Gallinule...looks ver similiar to the Common Gallinule but the Common Gallinule has a red shield above the bill instead of the blue shield as seen here. This bird is a real treat to a birder's eye here in Florida as they are not that common.
This is a Limpkin ...according to Sibley's Bird Guide { The Guide Amongst Birders} this bird is only found in central Florida..When he sees a gator..he let's the entire park konw by it's very loud shrieking sounds.
A Great Blue Heron..common bird.Watch these guys. When I first came to Florida I was fishing the shoreline. I had about 6 bass on a stringer.A bird like this one ran his bill through one of the fish and tried to fly off with my stringer..Tried, as I came running and throwing stones at it until he dropped it.LOL
Honestly ..when I first moved to Florida and heard a Limpkin from a distance..I thought a person { female} was being abused..it's a horrible screaming sound..but rather..it's a Limpkin that will literally perch over a gator to let nearbys know that there is a predator in the area..the sound can be heard up to a good 200 yds.
Chuck, a few years back I was out fishing an noticed an Great Egret hunting along the shoreline. Great Blue Herons are everyday common, but to see that bright white Egret was something else. Very unusual for them to stray this far North I believe, as it is the only one I have ever seen. Identical to the one in your photo.
