Default To Phil..how to cast a baitcaster.

here ya go partner..I had made one for ya earlier in the year but it must have been overlooked..it really had too much information in it anyways...this one is much more simplified. [ -;

To be honest with ya Phil..I wish all my reels were spinning reels..Spinning reels are alot more versatile..The only advantage I can see for a baitcaster is fishing big deep diving crankbaits..other than that..I love open- faced spinning reels. Most come with 2 spools. I put braid on one..for heavy cover and for worm fishin..{ Won't kink th eline} and everything else I fish mono. But since I own 5 baitcasters..I'll fish them.

One more thing Phil.
SOme baitcasters are crappy right out of the package..Many were telling me the Revo SP 150.00 reel was 'The ' reel. LOL it was horrible..I couldn't do nothing to slow the spool down..and if you can't slow the spool down..you gor magor backlashes..I took the reel right back and got a different one. Quantum generally puts out decent inexpensive reels..I wouldn't buy a garcia if I was you for a first reel..the spools are very free for an inexperienced caster...Pennacle is also an ok reel..for a cheap reel...but my recomendation are the cheaper Quantums 50-80.00 reels
AND if ya buy it at Walmart..you can take it back if you don't like it.[ -;

Thanks Chuck, I will have to keep at it until I can get it now. Just have to keep practicing it I guess. I hate those backlashes.. I currently have a Quantum and a fellow fishing with said if I do not want it he would gladly take it off my hands. I told him no way att least not yet as it makes a great trolling rod. LOL..

Phil to guarantee from a backlash..

A. tighen spool where the lure is barely moving at all..

B. Practice the sweep..you can do that in your living room.

Once you understand and get the 2:00- 10:00 sweep down you will have it..

C. Then practice with short 10 -20 foot long sweeping cast..2:00-10:00

D. Once you got the feel..lean into the 10:00 and make long follow through cast..

Your other Rhino may have been a crappy reel..I've had a couple of flat out junk reels that would not cast worth a flip..

ALSO...line makes a huge differnce..good ole 10 pound Trilene cast great..but 14-17 lb mono..yikes..I start having difficulty with line trying to spring off..my favorite line sizes are mon..8, 10, or 12
Braid 20 or 15
