What type of fishing? Saltwater, freshwater, spin fishing, fly fishing, etc... If it's freshwater you can start off by throwing a worm and bobber out or some powerbait. The pond and lake shore guys here like to use powerbait.

What ever you are fishing for, use what looks nateral.
Try to stick, to baits, that look like their nateral food, for the fish, that you are fishing for.
And watch, Bill Dance fishing shows.
But most of all, have fun.

what will you be fishing for. that is the primary question that needs to be answered first. There are infinate ways to approach fishing, it just depends on what you are looking to catch that determines how you go about fishing.

Living in Missouri you must be freshwater fishing..

Get the following to start...

Open faced Spinnning rod and reel combo..30.00
I would reccomend Garcia Spinning Reel..with 6 1/2 foot medium rod..
Trilene XL clear mono 10 pound test...6.00
pack of #10 gold hooks 2.00
Some BB spit shots..1.50
3 pack of round bobbers 1 inch size..1.09
Get some fishing worms ..free

Put line on reel..
Tie on hook.
Cover hook with a big juicy worm
8 inches above hook pinch on a BB split shot..

Cast your baited line/hook out around a log or other structure..the deeper the water the better if your fishin off the shore..get a forked stick and lean rod into the fork..when line takes off reel in your fish..{ -;
When your line moves out straight..set the hook good and ..keeping the rod bent and reel your fishi in.

This will catch mostly any kind of fish..We all started this way [ -;
especially bluegill,bass and catfish
