Default Anyone fish the snake river?

In a couple of weekends I' ll be trying out some new territory (new to me). Has anyone fished the snake for cats?

If so where, how and what kind of catfish are in it? Also, what other species should I give a try while I' m there?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Oh yeah, I was going to Farewell Bend State Park (OR) and I' ll be fishing from a boat.

I fished the Snake River for catfish about 7 years ago. We were up by Hells Canyon. I had a bunch of pretty ripe chicken parts, but somehow one of my kids accidently burned them up in the fire[], so I fished with WD-40 and nightcrawlers and caught quite a few. I was fishing from the bank, and didn' t catch anything huge, but big enough.

Thanks Hntngirl. I' m pretty excited about my trip. I' ve driven through this area many times and allways thought it would be fun to get the motorhome over there and spend a few days. What kind of cats are they? Channels? I love catfish but have never cleaned one or cooked one myself!

Any tips?

They were channel cats. I usually just filet them and fry them!
I don' t know how long you' re going for, or what route you' re taking, but there is also some great bass fishing on the John Day River!

When I was a young teenager we went to hells canyon on a vacation. What a blast I had fishing and shootingthe carp with the 22s. Oh and the hiking trips my step brother and I would take. Fun times Thanks for the walk down memory lane hntngirl There is channel cat in the river but if you want somthing a little bigger try their sturgon. Good luck and have fun I know I did. BTW bring lots of sun screen it' s hot as he!! there. No pun intended..........lol yes there was

I' ll be fishing Brownlee reservoir. Carp shootin sounds like fun. I sure haven' t had any luck catching any. I' ve heard they can put up a good fight though. I' ll pass on fileting and frying them.

I go to Brownlee Res. about 2 or 3 times a year, I was there on Memorial Day weekend, thats when they have the catfish derby, the biggest one caught was 29lbs 11 oz. of coarse I didnt catch anything worth entering. I go from Huntington, down the River road to Morgan Creek. there is a boat launch there with a nice little cove, I fish for crappie there and use it for bait. fresh cut trout is damn good bait too, but I like eating trout more then catfish so I dont use it much
my next trip there will be on the 4th of July weekend
