I took my friend Peter fishing last night at a small pond that I have been going to lately, and the fish were biting decently. My friend peter has only fished one other time, which was with me a few months ago, so I was really just trying to get him onto some fish and If I caught anything it would be a bonus. His father in law wanted the fish to eat so anything over a pound and a half was kept. i wanted to see if the lunar activities would affect my fishing so I kept a log
6:30 got the john boat in the water and started fishing.
6:45 get my first LM, 1.0 lb, threw back
6:50 Peter gets his first LM 1.5 lb, goes in the ice chest
7:00 I wasn't paying attention and missed a strike
7:05 Peter misses a strike in almost the exact same location
7:20 Peter gets a LM right against the boat in the middle of the pond. 1.5-2lb, goes in the ice chest
7:30 I land a 1.5 lb'er, goes in the ice chest
7:31 Peter lands a LM, 1.0 lb, he wanted to keep it so it went in the ice chest.
7:50***Sun no longer visible, completely set, but the sky is still lighted***
8:15 I miss a nice one, prolly 3-4 lbs, it shakes off at the boat after a poor hookset
8:20 Peter gets one but it breaks off at the boat, poor hookset
8:45 I land a LM 1.5 lb-2lb, goes in the ice chest
9:00 I got hung up on what I thought was a tree. Turned out to be a bass and he spits it out because i never set the hook.
9:10 LM takes my lure and I set it too early, lure flies at my head.
9:20 pull boat to edge of pond and come home.
So, overall Peter left with 5 fish, and he had a great time, so I had a great time. All of the fish were caught on ZOOM Horny Toads, with most being caught with the Watermelon Red color and fewer being caught with the BullFrog color. I believe that was because the WaterMelon red was most likely easier for the fish to see in the evening because the lake is surrounded by tall trees which makes the area pretty dark well before sunset.
Surpsingly, we had two poles dragging along behind the boat with live minnows attached, and we didnt get a single hit on them.
More surprisingly was the fact that our slowest fishing was 20 min before sunset and 20 minutes after for a total of 40 minutes with no fish.
Peter has all of the pictures on his Camera, so I won't get them until tonight, but I will post them when I get them.
this is a pcitre of all the fish in the ice chest. The largest is on top. The fish look large, but it's actually just a very small styrofoam ice chest, haha. I dont know if its the flash washing out the coloration, but the top bass doesnt look like it has a stripe at all, and i dont remember it being that way when we landed him.
