Default It was Boom or Bust, I busted

I went to Canyon Lake, Texas this past weekend to mingle with my wifes family. While there, I wanted to get some fishing in so I took a few rods and reels. All my fishing is usually done in ponds and smaller woods lakes, so I was completely unprepared for this fishing trip. Canyon Lake is all rock, no vegetation, just steep rocks and drop offs with some underwater trees scattered along some of the banks. I used the jig, a Brush hog, and some worms to no avail. However, I did get one hit and it was on a jig cast close to tree in about 20' of water.

Basically, I got skunked. This pond boy cant hang with the lake boys, haha.

One cool thing you guys might find interesting though, is all my fishing was done with my mother in law. She is a wonderful woman who is an avid fisher. She has landed more 10lb plus bass than anybody i have met.

It's always kind of odd to go fishing, then come back home to my wife and father in law asking us how our fishing trip went, haha.

I hear ya...

Matt said I saw a Bassmaster Classic on TV in Texas..most likely Lake Fork..He learned alot..He said every successful fishermen was using deep diving cranks especially the Sexy Shad..so I used all crankbaits yesterday..I had one hit a hefty 2 pounder broke the surface and shook free..

I got all my rods ready for a trip either his evening and tomoorow..he also said one fellow caught a 5 pounder on a jig..the fishermen gave a hard set witth the faintest of bites...I plan to do the same..I've put my jig on a 7 foot medium heavy and plan to bump the jig from 9 o clock to 9 L30 ..this allows for a quick hook set..I had been bumping it like a worm..this way causes me to lower the rod ..which is too much time for a jig..it's TAP ..BOOM! that quick..

I plan to order a couple of Sexy Shad..one in 10 foot and one in 14 foot.

God bless,
C7

Thanks,
I couldn't get the colors to enlarge on Bass Pro..so I went to Cabelas and found some cranks that looked like the Normans..I got 4 in Sexy Shad..the lures were cheaper too. 4.00 for 3/8 ounce 8-10 foot and 4.99 in 1/2 ounce 10-14

They are made by Strike King..
I'll see if i can find them.

Here they are..will be here next Wed. 5.00 something shipping.

that sexy shad is a great color. those deep divers are nice cause you can run them down and let them start to some back up and get some nice hits on the rise. i caught some more decent bass this morning on the old heddon tiny torpedo. its a classic for topwater

aaron, I don't really fish lakes..any body of water in Florida is called a lake..even a 1 acre pond..they don't use the word pond here..I fish what are considered old phosphate mine pits..these are holes dug for the mineral phosphate in which they make fertilizer..usually a stream fills these 30 foot pits up and they are stocked..I mostly fish Saddle Creek which is a series of old pits 1 mile long and 1/2 mile wide..where the front in loaders mounted the dirt are the islands..this makes for drop offs and sandbars and points..These pits are well established and they are all over 70 years old.

I fish to the right of Saddle Creek Park Road..
it has no boat ramp so it's pretty much all mine.
WOW! click on a boat and you can see what it's like where I fish at..I just found this.LOL\
A. click on link
B,..Click on boating view to the upper left..
