Default I Gotta Relearn How To Fish Plastic Worms.

I haven't fished with plastic worms in so long, I forgot how to set the hook. lol

I was using Creme 8 inch fishing worms, yellow.
I had bites like crazy, I just kept missing them.
Oh well, the last one hit so hard the worm came off the hook.
I had my sunshades on and saw a Huge Bass swimming about 6 inchs to 1 ft at the surface.
Where I was standing I just couldn't get the worm to where it was.
Theres another day, at least I know it is there.
It might be I was useing to small of a hook.
I was useing # 2 trueturn hooks.

Johnny ,
I use a straight shank worm hook and catch about 90 % ..I use a 4/0 hook on all my worms but the 10 inch..they get a 5/0

I feel the hit.
Stop...let the fish inhale the worm { I use glass rattles in my worms} { I also use a 7.5 inch Culpret}
Aim rod tip at fish swimming away.
Slightly feel the fish
PULL SET!!!! HARD OVER THE HEAd...
I mostly use a 6 1/2 foot medium heavt rod baitcaster with braid when worming..I catch just as many with a 6 1/2 foot spinning when using braid..I only use the braid because worm fishing twist mono line really fast.

However;;with a straight Creme worm you probably are not getting any line twist..I use a ribbon worm..

I had to make myself do that.
I was trying to do it like a spinnerbait.
I forgot to waite for the bass to take it before setting the hook.
The first hit I got, I forgot to set the drag.
I always loosen the drag all the way when I am not going to use the baitecaster for a while.
It is a Zebo Rhino Baite caster, on a Zebco quantum lite rod.
I have two of the Rhino baitecasters.
The other one is on a shakespear ugly stick rod.

Ok..you do need a backbone rod to penetrate the jaw of a bass when worm fishing..YOur closed fced reels will work but you may need to invest in a stiffer rod..the longer the better..Leverage helps alot..and just enough drag..more toward the tight side when worm fishing..all depends on the line you are using..
If your using abouit 10 pound mono..I'd use a medium 6 1/2 ' rod..to absorb some of the shock..The hook set is wheer 90% of the break offs happen

I am guessing that you are fishing this in a floating worm fashion, 3 seconds is the rule of thumb after they bite, determine a direction, and set the hook in the opposite direction. That is just what I have learned over the years, also I may suggest to you some Danny Joe's Original Floaters, they have a real good action to them worked fast or slow, but I believe they are only sold in NC, so go to a local tackle store that isn't a big chain and you should find them.
