Default John Boat motor

I have found a new body of water to fish, but it is too big for me to paddle, and the spots I want to fish would take me an hour to get to if I chose to paddle. I think its time i get a motor for the Jon Boat.

Do you all suggest a troller motor or an actual motor? What brand and HP?

Its a 10 foot Alumacraft.

I'd go with a 40 pound thrist Minn Kota..Do not buy a Motor Gide

Reason..you can't turn the top of the motor around to attach ot the front of the boat..on a Minn Kota you can..

40 pound new Minn Kota...200.00 Battery 70.00

look on the tag in the boat and get the closest motor to the max hp rating you can. my 10' aluminum will plane out and hit 22 mph gps with a 8 hp merc, loaded down with a battery, trolling motor, fishing gear, me, and life jackets.

Aaron..around here Walmart has gone to nearly all Motorguide...If you plan to mount the motor on the bow { Front} of the boat..DO NOT BUY ONE..

With the Minnkota you can take out one screw and ...turn the top around and mountthe motor on the front..This takes about 3 minutes..With the Motorguide you can only mount them on the stern { Or back of the boat}

To balance the weight out..I have the 60 pound battery in the back of the boat..I have a used set of jumper cables that run along the bottom of the boat { Is hidden under the carpet} all the way to the front of the boat where iit attaches to the motor...I even rigged up a hidden powerstrip where I can quickly hook up lights or air rated cooler..

Yep..and easy to make..I simply stripped about 2 inches of rubber off the jumper cables...

Stock the bare wire in a 1/4 inch copper tubbing..

Put in a vise..

Flattened } Crimped} the copper and then drilles and attached 1/4 " bolts for assessories.
