Which type of fishing reel do you use the most?

DANG!!!!!! Tough question..I'm actually 50-50 between spinning and baitcaster..but I voted baitcaster..

This morning ..
I started 30 minutes Horny Toad Baitcaster.
Next hour was spinning with spinner bait..my only fish of the day..
I finished off bummping a worm with baitcaster..
I also chucked a deep diver with my spinning rod..
50-50..with a slight bent to baitcaster..If I had my rathers..I'd go with spinning..better tackle for less money..IMHO {-:

For medium to heavy lure, I use a baitcaster 9 times out of ten. the only time i use a spinning combo is when im using very light tackle that doesnt throw well with a stiff rod and baitcaster.

I was throwing a 1/2 ounce 14 foot deep diving Norman today with a 6 1/2 foot medium heavy spinning rod with a Cardinal 104 spinning reel 12 pound test...it was reeling in very smooth..

I mostly always use a spinning rod when going for big bass with shiners..

I only use a baitcaster for worming because the line won't twist as bad..this is the only benefit I've found..and only if using braid..but I can get teh same results if the braid is on the spinning reel.

If I had to do it all over again ..I'd have all spinning equipment..

For 100.00 I can get a real nice spinning out fit..
to find a baitcaster with the same quality I spend 200.00

I 'm more accurate with spinning..
Don't have to worry about backlashes
Smacking someone in back of the boat.
More control fighting the fish
Most come with 2 spools..I use one for mono one for braid..{ -:

However; I''ve got 4 or 5 baitcasters and I use them..Once they are gone..they wont get replaced...

hey chuck those baitcasters are dangerous i hit a guy in the boat with me by accident with a 5/8 spinnerbait because i let go of the spool by accident he had headache the rest of the day

I snagged Matt's cheek once with a Rooster Tail...the barb didn't go through praise the Lord..but it was scary..I thought he might punch me..he wsn't a happy camper..

AND I've had ton's of serious .line cutting backlashes from where I would latch unto another rod unknowing and proceeded to cast..} -: SUPER BACKLASH..

none of this happens with spinning rods..I can put the lure anywhere I want using any kind of cast..side armed..flick underneath..pitch into cover sweetly....and if the drag is set properly..they are awesome..

I think I only started using baitcasters because everyone else was..now I use them because I got money tied up into them..All ready Matt's 100 dollar Revo is getting the worn bearing wobble..6 months old...} -:

I cast considerably more accurate with a bait caster. Plus, my landings are much quieter and more controlled with the bait caster. When i cast with a bait caster, I am for a position past where i want to hit, and thumb the wheel right above the area I want it to land it. The lure stops dead in the air, and if done correctly, drops maybe 2-3 inches. So i have zero horizontal velocity or force, and minimal vertical forces, so when the lure disrupts the surface of the water, it does so with minimal disruption. With other types of reels, I am unable to do that and therefore my lures make a large disruption when landing in the waters that I am fishing.

However, if I want the lure to make a completely vertical drop once the lure enters the water, I will use a spin caster to eliminate the swing-back effect of baitcasters and other non-free spooling reels.

I hear ya Aaron..but I'm so accurate with the spinncaster I've thought of going duck hunting with it..


On a serius note..It's great when pitching in deep water like 14 foot with a jig..simply open the bail..and flick it..the exact amount of line falls gently to the bottom..and stops..

you can't do that with a baitcaster..you have to strip the estimated line off the reel...and in deep water this can be a hassel.

very true. I use the spin caster whenever I need to eliminate the swing-back that occurs with descending lures on non-free spooling lines.

I almost always use my Abu Garcia Ambassadeur reels. Then again, I'm a musky fisherman.
