Default Pretty Neat Catch

I do some of my tackle rigging after hours at my office, and last evening I rigged up a zoom fluke to one of my baitcasters. As I was walking back out to the truck to put the rod and reel in the back, I thought it would be best if i set the reel brake now because I wont remember to set it next time I'm out and would probably wind up with a severe backlash. So, I walked out to our little man made pond, which is about 15 feet wide and 100 feet long (more like a big trench), and cast out across the water. The lure only went about 10 feet in the air and stopped (drag set too high), so I looked down at the reel and started adjusting it before the lure ever hit the ground. As I was adjusting it, I heard a noise in the water and saw the water around the lure swirl a little bit. A few months ago my son and I caught a huge red ear slider turtle and put him in this pond, so I naturally assumed it was him and that I prolly just spooked him when I threw the lure. I finish adjusting, which takes all of about 5 seconds, and start to reel the fluke in. I feel tension on the line and think "Crap, now im gonna have to get a hook out of some dog'gone turtle". I continue reeling the line in slowly with the tension on the end of the line, then all of a sudden a bass jumps out of the water and I can see my fluke hanging out the side of his mouth. I was utterly surprised and reeled him in real quick. He was a fairly healthy 10-12 inch bass, but was VERY light colored. The pond was stocked with a few fish that we have caught over the past 2-3 years, but to my knowledge it was almost exclusively catfish,. I was really surprised to catch this little bass in here, maybe somebody else has been putting a few fish in this small trench like pond. Its interesting how sometimes you can fish for hours and not get anything, then the next day you can throw a lure into a pond, simply testing your equipment, and get a bass when you didnt even think bass were in that body of water. Pretty Neat I think.

Cant beat that.

I know 5-6 years ago we use to sein minnows and crawdads in this little ditch thing it was probably 2-3 ft deep. Well one day I pulled out a 8-10" largemouth and a decent crappie. I would have never in a million years thought that they would be in that thing.

Oh man, what I would give to be able to fish for more than an hour at a time once every couple days, haha. Hope your burns heal up quick, congrats on the blue gill and the bass!
