Default MIlky Lower Unit

Ok guys...I aint spending any more money on this follish 4 HP outboard..

I notice the lower unit ..when I pulled out the screw was milky..
95% of the forums say..hurry up and take it in to get new seals..
How about if I just change the oil every 6 months??
SOme said the problem can be that once you take out the screws you need to replace the screw's gasket/O ring..

Need some encouragement here..

Chuck,If the O-ring needs replacing on the screw you should be able to get one at lowes cheap .Try taking the prop off and see if there is another O-ring behind it.If it is replace it also.I dont think it will hurt to run one taking on water as long as it is not one of the big 'ol motors.Just change it 2 or 3 times a year. It's 90 wt.any way when it looks to be getting thin change it.

Yes sir..after reading a bunch of stuff; here is my final conclusion..

One guys says." All motors get some water in the lower unit.."
One reason why they leak..the drain plug gasket is supposed to be changed whenever the oil is changed..I just ordered 10 new gaskets from AIboat parts..

.99 a piece and shipping..

I plan to change the oil about 3 times a year..that's it.once it goes it goes and it's trolling motor from here out..I'm done with this outboard stuff. I do got the motor running awesome..Thansk Be to God..I ought to change the oil and sell it but I have a conscience..

i would suspect a prop-shaft seal, easy to replace, they get torn up easily by discarded fishing line and trot lines, think about it like this it is very hard for gear oil 90-130 weight oil to leak around the screws, but becomes easier when the prop is turning, even worse if the seal has been eaten up, the seal should be cheap enough and easy to replace, i replace mine every other year when i do my water pump

check with the boat wrenches over @ BBC dot com
