After not catching a Steelhead for more than a few months, the fish are starting to make their way back to shore in the Big Lake.
Reports had been slow out on the piers, a friend and I decided to try out our luck anyway.
We left the house at 2 AM, began fishing at 4 AM, and had a fish on by 4:45. I would say the day didn't start out bad!
Soon, the big pier got very crowded (40+ anglers) and a terrible wind direction ruined the fishing for us. We caught 1 of 3 fish off the entire pier.
We made a quick relocation to another pier 30 minutes South.
After setting up we had the pier to ourselves. we waited 6 hours without a bite. One o'clock rolled around and a rod took off. This started an amazing bite that last 90 minutes. Fish were everywhere and we were the only fisherman on the pier.
The beaches were very busy and people were everywhere. Each fish drew a huge crowd and we would get applauses after pulling in these beautifully huge fish.
The total ratio were 9 caught fish in 11 attempts. All Steelhead (a few Skamania "summer runs" and other normal Steelhead).
These fish were unusually large, most weighing up near 10 pounds, the largest topped out in the 16 pound range!!!
Enjoy the pictures!
