So many people think that the Horny toad isnt as good because it doesnt throw as much water or make as much of a distrubance on the surface of the water. Well, they are right about the horny toad not making as much noise and disturbance as other frogs and top water baits, but they are completely wrong in eliminating this lure for that reason. I do not fish the Horny Toad as a buzz bait, and see no reason why i should when its working so well by not fishing it that way.
With the horny toad,I trykeeping it in the top 6 inches of water and never letting it break the surface. Ideally, I keep it right below the surface whichallows it to form a hump or small bulge in the water. I knock them dead with that approach, and I cant get any of the other toads tocome anywhere near the resultsI have had with the Horny Toad. So many people think a toad is strictly atop water lure meant to create a ruckus on the surface of the water, but I have never seen a toad actually do that in real life. In real life, the frog swims just under the surface and pops its head up when it stops. If you want to fish a toad, try to mimic it sometime, the bass really seem to engage the frog when its actually retrieved like a frog
