Default buzzbaits

Does anyone have any comments on buzzbaits and how to fish them . Also what rod and speed reel you need to use.

I tried them..didn't do any good..The Horny Toad..is basically a realistic buzzbait..cause you gotta keep it moving..That 's the only buzzbait I've had success with..
Actually ..it's my artificial big bass lure of the year for 2009

I like them some in the summer during the early morning and late evening. I prefer the ones with the double blades, a 6'6" to 7' rod, and a reel with a 6:3 or faster ratio.

I like Heddon torpedos better, but will go to a buzzbait if the grass is heavy and close to the surface, or if I'm throwing in and around cover.

I do not mind buzz baits as they make a great locator up here. I cast them out and crank them in real fast to get the bass to give chase. It is a great feeling when the water just explodes from a bass coming in behind it. I have had some difficulty landing them with those though. So once they start chasing them I will switch to something else.

i like them, i'll throw from the smallest to the biggest, i've had all of them work, like NT mentioned i like a fast reel, but i only want to crank it fast enough to keep it on top, the qucker reels let you get the bait back on top and the blade(s) turning. PhilZ, one thing i always do is use a trailer hook, hook up in vegitation, and hook down in open water, if you miss a fish follow it up asap with a platic worm you'll be amazed how many fish you'll pick up if you'll follow up with the plastic worm, i mean you've found an active feeding fish, and he missed an easy meal, try it, it works

i probably don't throw them as much as i need to, my favorite is a pop "R", so much fun and its hard to trade out a bait that is catching for one that might (it will) but a buzz bait and a zara spook are propably the two best big fish top-water baits of all time
