Default May 23 rd bass fishing

Kind of slow but fun..I was trying to turn Matt on to top water..so far he has only used shiners and rubber worm

6;30 We top watered it...nothing
7:00 He switched back to his Culpret worm..I continued top water..
7:30 ..missed a small one.
7:35..Matt caught a baby bass on a worm and I caught a tiny one on spinner bait..and then another 13 incher on spinnerbait.
7:45..I boated a 2 pounder..on top water
That got Matt's attention
8:00 I got a 15 inch 1 1/2 off my top water
Matt ties on the same lure..boats a 2 pounder 16 inch..He's hooked..the boil..the tight line the splash,,
9"00 I havea good 3 pounder on..lose it at the boat.[&o]

We then had a casting contest..Revo 100.00 against my new 150.00 Pflueger..

We tied on every cast. The only benefits I saw was
the adjustment nut on the Pfluger actually clicks..
He had 4 backlashes ..I had none.
His set upwas much smoother though.
He was using a 6 1/2 foot medium rod..I was using a 7 ' medium rod.
Same line and lure.

anybody that dosen't get excited about a topwater bite needs to be checked for a pulse, nothing like it

AND weedless top water has many benefits

A. Showing bass something new.

B. The fish see no line

C. Totally excitement..my favorite way to fish..I now have a rod dedicated strictly for topwater..my hook set ratio went way up when I switched to medium from medium heavy ..WHY?? my hypothesis is that the fish now absorbs the bait / fsat action rod tip..I caught 2 today..I thought I missed my second one..after the explosion but I saw no bait..and lo and behold..the fish had sucked it down and was swimmng directly toward the boat..I zipped in my line and set the hook..got her.

D. All fish so far have been tournament keepers ..15 inches and up..

E. Get to cover areas that were virtually impossilbe before.
Saddle Creekis HYDRILLA city..25 % of our water is ..Hydrilla

Exactly.

Last year about this time I had THE BEST topwater day for bass I ever had. A business associate of mine lives on about 80 acre lake that is stuffed to the gills with 12-16 inch bass (occasionally bigger). He doesn't fish much (go figure) and is sort of a novice.

Started out about 6am with big poppers. Caught a fish on the first cast. A couple of fish afterward I had two bass hit at the same time and caught both of them. Catchin' them in 2 ft of water and 20 ft. Anywhere/everywhere that a spot looked at all fishy. Couldn't believe it. At 1pm we have to quit (he had something else to do) and they are STILL hittin top water. What a goldfish bowl that place was.

Goin back again this year...yeah baby

they live beneath that canopy, thats when i like to take a heavy jig (3/4-1 oz.) and drop it thru the little holes or just bust my own hole right thru once the topwater bite has vanished.. oh yea!!! put your seat belt on and get ready to get your arm broke[:-]
