Actually MOST of our lakes in Florida are really just ponds..they don't call nothing a pond down here ..they are all lakes.

IN FLORIDA...tiny lake lures from best to ok
#1 ..A six inch black curly tail rubber worm BB spit shot for the weight rigger Texas style 3/0 hook straight shank worm hook

#2. 3/8 ounche white Rooster Tail spinner fished at different depths...my fish , depth and structure finder.

#3. Top Water..Rapala Floater

or #4.White Heddon Torpedo

#5. Crank Bait..Rapalas ..lip size according to lake depth

I hear ya..this is quite normal..but trust me..you will need to learn how for this is one awesome bait..FACT..every local fun tourny I've won has been on this lure..and I've won over 80 %.you need to fishthis lure at least 1/4 ounce ..nothing smaller..I use 3/8 I order them from Cabelas..I only use white..{ Represents our Gizzard Shad}My opponents call me a cheater when I tie a Rooster on..they are that good.
OK ..here's how to get the blade turning.

step one..you can't use a rod bigger than medium..the longer the better..6 1/2 would be nice..

Step two..you can't use line bigger than 10 pound .I use 10 pound mono for Mr. Rooster..

Step three..make a lonnng cast ..I let the Rooster fall to the bottom..and as soon as the lure touches the water I start counting down..1000 2000 3000 etc..so not only am I fishing a great lure I'm using it as a depth finder..When the line goes slack stop counting..your on the bottom.

Step four..the part that will take practice..wind in the slack...keep the rod tip pointed straight at the spinner and make a BIG sweep causing your rod to bend in about a 45 degree arch ..AFTER you feel the tiny vibration ..THEN start reeling JUST fast enough to keep it vibrating..I always use an open face reel for this..at least a 6.1 ratio..and you should feel the vibration of the Rooster..if it's vibrating the blade is turning..IF not..wind in slack and repeat the process..Yes it does take practice but after a while you will be a pro..

I stand in my boat and can cast it underhanded ..side ways etc..and get the blade turning at any depth..and you will too with plenty of practice..

If you use a lighter rod you should have no problem at all..Medium light ..8 pound test..should be easy..I've lost count of how many bass over 5 pounds I've caught with the Rooster Tail..

BIGGEST PROBLEM..the fish get off easy..[:@][:@]when you hook one. keep the rod bent and drive those small hooks in deep. Only use just enough drag you need..any slack at all and the fish is off.

Also..over all Rooster will only catch those small 1 1/2 pound fish..They do catch bigger fish but not consistently..that is why I use a rubber worm ..the fish are consisitently bigger..BUT if I'm looking for numbers and action..you can't beat a Rooster,,the bass below was with a Rooster.

Other Rooster Tail Tips.

If you buy 4 ..leave 3 in the package..The hackle begins to discolor after use..and the shiny blade will get dull. ..so only open up a new one when you need one.

To use the smaller ones for bluegills etc..you will need to use a light rod..These lures must be used with the right rod and reel BUT they are my go to lure..

If I was out for quick action and numbers I would use one all day..Problem is..80 % of the bass will be small. Also..most are caught off the bottom..get the blade turning and reel in just enough to keep the blade turning..a bite feels like your hung up on a telephone pole..Set the hook straight up into the roof of the bass's mouth..the side is more thin and will tear out easier..MUST KEEP a tight line..the first small bit of slackness..the bass is gone guaranteed..

Also ...I don't use my open faced reel correctly..[&:]I can't reel with my left hand so I ..put the handle on the right side..I use my right hand to cast..and in a millisecond I put the rod in my left hand and crank the handle with my right..Been doing it this way for 40 years..My sons do too.I just can't reel with my left hand..

Bass-
1. Weightless 4" trick worm, works when nothing else will. Just throw it to a likely spot and let it sink.

2. $1 walmart spinnerbaits, catch more fish if you aint scared to lose it.

3. Jerkbaits, Flukes good in spring and fall.

4.Texas rigged 7" culprit, I think, red/black color is my favorite, but anything from red, black, purple, or blue works. Brown in clearer water.

5.Senko's. Fished like #1, sometimes with better results.

Crappie-
1. 1/16oz head with a 2" kalin triple threat tennessee shad color

2. see above with a arkansas shad color

3. see above with black chartuese color

4. minnows, sometimes you cant beat the real thing.

5. beetle spin.

Bream-
1. worms, it aint rocket science!

2. 1/16 jig head with any of crappie grubs.

Catfish-
1. Cut up crappie or bream. Use the head and the middle piece(guts). Toss the tail. Works best for bigger ones over a few pounds. For smaller fish(under 20")use the stuff below. I caught 4 channel cats over 8 lbs last weekend on bream heads.

2 Chicken liver. Hard to stay on hook, but good bait.

3. Cheese(sharper the better)

4. Night Crawlers

5. Shrimp, only problem is I eat all the bait!

wow lol ALOT of info...i have an openfaced reel and it is atleast 6:1...i usually wait 1 second or less and reel..which starts my problems lol...i think the fact i have a swivel on affects it as well...dang...i have every rooster tail i own in my tackel box and they are fading[&:]i have a white 3/8 and a few smaller ones and etc..
